Chasing Currents Aboard the Granocean W60
Aboard the Granocean W60
Kel and I have now comfortably settled back into our familiar routine. It always takes a day or two after leaving port to fully synchronize with the rhythm of being at sea, but we're definitely in the groove now.
Our transit across the top of Borneo proved to be quite favorable. We seemed to pick up a consistent current, providing us with a welcome boost of an extra one to two knots, significantly improving our speed over ground. Despite diligently following the shipping lane, we encountered surprisingly little commercial traffic and, thankfully, far fewer fishing boats. It seems the fishermen prudently keep clear of these busy lanes to avoid losing their valuable nets to passing ships, which certainly made for a more relaxed passage than our previous leg.
As we neared our exit into the Celebes Sea, we had another communication from a naval vessel, this time a Filipino warship. They asked a series of questions similar to those posed by the Malaysians, though their distinct Filipino-American accent made the exchange much easier to understand. These routine checks are a common occurrence for a yacht delivery skipper operating in the maritime zones of Southeast Asia, underscoring the dynamic nature of international waters.
We're now well into our crossing of the Celebes Sea, making good progress. Our current plan involves heading slightly south of a direct line to Talesie Island. This deliberate deviation isn't a navigational error, but a strategic move to "hook into" an amazing west-to-east current, which is currently running at over two knots. Leveraging such favorable currents is a key tactic in catamaran delivery, allowing us to save both valuable time and fuel, demonstrating the efficiency and planning that goes into every yacht delivery undertaken by Yacht Delivery Solutions.
Conditions on board the Granocean W60 are currently superb. We have a decent-sized moon illuminating the night, contributing to excellent visibility. The seas are calm, and there's no wind, making for a truly peaceful and enjoyable evening watch. This kind of tranquil progress on a high-performance Granocean is exactly what we strive for.
