Nordhavn 76 Yacht Delivery – Cairns to Singapore (Day 21, Batam Approach)

Day 21 of this Nordhavn 76 yacht delivery from Cairns to Singapore positioned us off Batam Island, staging for final arrival into Singapore waters.

Anchorage Selection – Shelter and Security

Initial arrival into a bay on the eastern side of a small island at 14:30 revealed excessive residual swell. Rather than accept unnecessary roll at anchor, we relocated to the western side between two islands where the landmass provided effective protection.

Anchor was set at 15:30 in well-sheltered water.

Following seven days of sustained sea state, the vessel required a full exterior freshwater washdown. Salt accumulation accelerates corrosion, particularly in tropical humidity. Cleaning commenced from the upper superstructure downward, ensuring exhaust stack, rails, and decks were cleared.

Security considerations in parts of the Indonesian archipelago remain relevant. Opportunistic boarding incidents have been reported in certain corridors. Standard protocol included:

  • All access points secured

  • External lighting activated (anchor and deck illumination)

  • Clear visual profile for passing commercial traffic

Risk mitigation at anchor is procedural, not reactive.

Night Departure – Batam to Singapore

Following a structured rest period, departure preparation began at 23:00.

Main engine start at 23:30 allowed system warm-up and pre-departure checks. Anchor was retrieved cleanly and we were underway at exactly 0000.

Distance to marina: 53 nautical miles.
Planned arrival: 08:30 local.
Booked entry: 09:00.

Night transit toward Singapore requires:

  • Active AIS monitoring

  • Radar overlay for small craft

  • Traffic separation awareness in the Singapore Strait

  • Strict helm and watch discipline

Commercial density increases significantly as Singapore approaches. Timing departure for early-morning arrival reduces congestion relative to peak daylight traffic.

Cairns to Singapore Delivery Context

This leg forms the final phase of a long-range motor yacht delivery from Cairns through Indonesian waters toward Singapore.

Key considerations along this route include:

  • Coral Sea departure windows

  • Indonesian archipelago navigation

  • Tidal flow and narrow channels

  • Fuel logistics

  • Security awareness in selected anchorages

A Nordhavn 76 is engineered for offshore endurance, but successful relocation from Australia to Singapore depends on disciplined routing and operational management throughout Southeast Asia.

YDS manages Power Boat  and professional yacht deliveries between Cairns, Darwin, Indonesia, Batam, and Singapore, specialising in vessels over 45 feet — both sail and power.

Final approach and controlled marina entry remain the priority.
